What is effective and practical to protect the sterndrive and shield from fouling? I have been using Hempel Eco Power which matches VP's paint, so makes it look pretty, It does not seem to do so much to stop the fouling where the drive is above the water flow when the boat is moving. I get a good crop of tube worms each year which I then have to remove one by one. Anyone know of a better solution?

Seajet 34.
They do a small 3 tin pack with epoxy barrier and antifoul. It is also available in "Volvo Penta" grey .About £30.
Trilux used to be the option, but that now only available commercially in very large drums, I believe.

gigm, thanks for your reply. I haven't really thought this through. If I have to start with primer I would have to take all the paint off the drive and shield first which is not practical. I was hoping there was something that would go over the top of the VP paint. It must be a common issue.

Maybe the epoxy is to try to get a better bond on props.
Seajet 034 is eroding anyway, so it is kind of going to come off at some point!
I sand the drives down with some sanding mesh (Toolstation etc)-just to key the surface, not remove alot. Maybe 5 mins per leg, kind of thing, assuming the leg isnt in a right old mess! Then epoxy, then antifoul. Seems to work on my drives!
You can (or you used to be able) just to buy the tiny tin of antifoul, but the 3 pack is almost the same price anyway, so may as well slap the epoxy on.
Anyway, I get a bit of slime, but that is it.

I also use 034 on props and drives. Its more economical to buy the 2.5lt tin of 034 which can be used over 3 seasons. I only use white on the drives so I can see any fouling during the season. Just a gentle wipe/brush over to keep them clean.

Hempel's Alu safe is perfekt way.

I have thinned it and applied it with a brush. It works well and is economical to use.
