Stern tube installation

Hi all, I've just bought a beneteau oceanis 423. It came up on the survey as having some movement (maybe 1mm max) externally between the cutlass bearing and the skeg. The survey suggested that the stern tube would need to be rebedded at both ends. There has been a variety of opinions as to whether its just the external end or both. Having read a few previous posts some owner identified an issue with polyester resin being used during the manufacture that then contracts and cracks leaving a gap and requiring sealant where it exits to prevent water ingress.

I'm interested as to whether anyone had had a similar problem on a beneteau oceanis 423 2003 and also whether anyone knows whether the internal epoxy is a factory finish or whether it's a previous repair.

Hi, if the stern tube itself has some movement then yes it should be rebedded...
