The stern light works intermittently so I want to replace it. I'd like an Led type that DOES NOT cause buzzing on the vhf!!

recommendations from experience please

I have a Lopolight tricolour next to the VHF antenna. Also, fitted white LED bulbs to my stern light on the gantry near my AIS antenna and have never noticed any problems.

Interference comes fromk the switch mode regulator on more sophisticated LED lights. They may or may not cause interference. A resistive current limited LED (cheapest) can not cause interference. So any bulb from Ebay (China) will most likely be resistive current limiting. Now some people will claim they represent a fire risk because current drain and light intensity depends on voltage input. Your voltage probably varies from 12 to 14v. IMHO this is not a problem however you can add additional resistance in series to limit current when battery is being charged. Or just mount lamp in such a way that over heat can not cause a serious fire.

I cannot believe you posted that:

I think any, opportunity, (for even the slightest) fire on a boat should be considered serious.

It was a simple fix, some minor corrosion on the contacts, cleaned off and I put the incandescent bulb back in with a bit of contralube gel.

So as the stern light will o ly be used when ru ning the engine current draw is not a major issue. So I won't bother with an Led just now, but tha ks for the advice.

When sailing I'd use the masthead light. I suppose close to shore with much land back lighting it might be sensible to use deck level lights instead.

I'll put a boat lamps Led on the list. :). And another for the bicolour light on the bow.
