Stern Glands

Has anyone ever owned a GK24? If so, how do you get at the stern gland?

I've been putting of checking the stern gland (silly, I know). I don't know much about them, but I understand that the packing should be checked from time to time. Correct? Is so, how do I get at it? The stern gland greaser is in the aft locker, but as far as I can tell, the gland itself is hidden away behind the engine, out of reach. What do I do (amd please don't suggest removing the engine!)

Is there no removable panel above the stern gland, or you will have to crawl down the side of the engine, normally there is an access hatch/hole somewhere, usually in the most ridiculous/out of the way place!
