Hi,

The stuffing boxes in my Princess 415 have been dripping for some time so last weekend, as the boat is currently out of the water, I removed both glands and stern turbes entirely from the boat to strip and rebuild the glands and replace the half bearings in the stern tubes.

The whole experience has been quite a steep learning curve but there's one question I can't find an answer to; what sealent should I use when bolting the stern tubes back into the boat? Is Sikaflex sufficient or is there a stronger sealent I should use?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks
Nigel

The only objection to Sikaflex ( presumably you mean Sikaflex 291) is that it is such a good adhesive that it may be difficult to remove again in the future, esp if you clean and degrease everything

That is a very astute observation and the reason why polyurethane sealant is banned on my boat, albeit a wooden boat.
