Having taken my stern gland off to replace the rubber hose that connects it to the stern tube, I found a grub screw that doesn't seem to do anything.

There's a large tapped hole that takes the greaser. Inside, there's a grease channel & next to the greaser hole, there's a small grub screw that blanks off a hole into the grease channel.

Anyone have any idea what it's for?

Could be the present greaser is a more recent fitment and before that there was something-else useing the other hole. Maybe to undue to let the air out when grease first gets pumped through. Maybe an earth wire was secured there. Difficult to know, I would not be too concerned about it.

I have a simliar unexplained hole into the grease channel. Hole diameter is approx. 1.0mm. Instead of a grub screw, its got a short roll pin stuck in there.
The hole is normally covered by the hose & clamp. I can't think what it could be for.

Don't know but could it be to fix the white metal bearing in the stern gland in position and stop it turning and putting the grease grove out of line with the grease inlet ?
