The flexible hose that joins the Stern gland stuffing box to the stern tube is starting to perish and needs to be renewed. I am having problems finding some of this. The hole is 42mm at one end 46mm at the other and is 100mm long. Any ideas where I could get one would be much appreciated.

I got mine from Lake Engineering. http://www.lakesterngear.co.uk/seal.html
Don't be tempted to use a cheap substitute. If this fails or slips off, a very rapid inflow of water will follow.

My sterngland required a hose with one end larger than the other. I bought one with a special flexible ribbed section and different diameters at the two ends.

Any good local marine engineer should know. Its expensive stuff, about £14 for a 7 inch length last time I used it. It resists everything, but as John says, don't use exhaust hose.

I'm not sure you will find tapered hose, though.

You could also try Sillette Sonic.

Bought some two weeks ago from T Norris 1 1/2" bore with 3/8" wall x 3" long £9.00
Make sure you have enough clearance on the o/d to get your jubilee clips on and do not foul the nuts holding the stern tube on but the thicker the wall the better.
As said it is the only hose that stops you instantly sinking! so replace it 100%

Hi I pressume from your latest post you have got a boat, did you purchase the Gibsea? how did you get on with the mast problem?

It looks like at some stage in the boats life the Stuffing Box has been changed for a smaller one? Going to have to scource a new stuffing box with the same size hose connection as the Stern Tube? Oh Bugger.
