Stern Glad checking/servicing

So we have our first shaft drive boat and I had a look at the stern gland over the weekend expecting to see somewhere to grease it but couldn't see anything..

What do I need to do to check it's ready to go back into the water?

It looks like a Volvo type to me. It will need burping when you first float and possibly greasing with Volvo grease applied via a McDonald's straw.
There's no adjustments. It either works or doesn't and has to be replaced.

Volvo advice is replacement after 5 or 7 years depending on which site you visit. Volvo supply proprietary grease - there is probably a wee tube on the boat - about 1" into a McD straw (other fast-food outlets are available), flatten the end, slide it in between the shaft and seal and squeeze it in.
Better get your supply of straws before they are banned completely.

Engine is Yanmar, not that it should affect the stern gland..

Volvo gland, they don’t have grease or vent nipples, if it’s not leaking nothing to do apart from as said occasional grease with a flattened straw. Similar design is the orbitrade ( see ASAP website> Orbitrade 91422 Stuffing Box Seal Kit For 30mm Prop Shafts) some have added vent tube to temove burping ( air locking)
