Stern Gear - to anti-foul or not?

So after several hours of work grubbing around under the boat in varying weather conditions (most not pleasant) I have finally finished cleaning up the stern gear. Boat is moored in fresh water (maybe a little brackish as we are tidal) so fouling isn't a real problem but calcification appears to be. The shafts were well coated and it took a lot of effort with a phosphoric acid based de-scaler and some very vigorous scrubbing to get it all off. Similar situation with the props etc.

I am wondering whether or not to anti-foul the P brackets and possibly the rudders but they don't appear to have ever been done so my instinct is to leave them as they are. What does the panel think? Should I anti-foul or not?

If I should what would be best product? We use Cruiser Uno for the hull but I am thinking Primocon primer followed by something like Trilux anti-foul. Any thoughts on this?

Cheers :)

PS Apols for the pic....it came out a bit blurred on the iPhone :)

No reason why you should not antifoul the stern gear. The P bracket and rudder should be OK with normal AF, but the problem with the shaft and the rotating props is getting anything to stick. Trilux seems to stick better than normal AF but there are various specialist treatments. Velox gets good reports on sailing boat props, but don't know whether it will survive on your type of prop.

I in Guernsey don't antifoul stern gear and so don't 98% of my customers. Don't do it.

And whatever you do don't af shafts or you have to change cutless bearings when you pull shafts!

Thanks for the replies so far.
To be clear, I am definitely not going to anti-foiul the shafts or props. I am just pondering on doing the 'P' brackets and possibly the rudders. Boat is 23 years old and they don't appear to have been done previously so maybes that is telling me something :)
