Sterling engine in a mirror dinghy

I like the idea that if something is not impossible, then however unlikely it is... someone will try to do it.

This was one of the 'suggested' videos on Youtube when I watched one of the above videos. I wasn't going to post this, because it takes things off topic, but that describes it wonderfully!

Being a sad g*t (see Tilley Lamp threads) I've got a couple of model Stirling engines, one of which came with a book published in the US in 1977. In the intro it claims that the Stirling was one of the two most promising alternative automobile engines!

Unfortunately the claims made in the book just don't stack up as many of the suggested fuels have a low energy value and the engines themselves are not very efficient.

A few years ago Lotus cars were developing a multi-fuel 2str engine suitable for Outboards.....never heard any more about it.
Iirc it would run on petrol, paraffin, diesel.....high compression supercharged diesel type hybrid.

Has anyone on here got any experience of the Whispergen Stirling cycle generators? There was a lot of publicity about 10 years ago, but no major market presence. The price seems to have been the main stumbling block as they appear to be reliable enough.

A few friends on the inland waterways considered them, but as you say cost Is an issue! I seem to recall they're primarily heaters that happen to generate electricity rather than pure generators.
