Don't do it. Your boat will be much better with mechanical steering from someone like WHITTAKER. You will have much more positive control and a you will 'feel' the boat.

Spot on that ,I was going to suggest using a normal steering box and steel tubing and ball joints.
To turn the corner at the stern use an idler gear .It's a shame your so far away because I have a couple of LandRover steering box's here , you'd be welcome to have one .
I will be fitting this sort of set-up on the tug because once done apart from grease for the idler and ball joints no maintenance !! and cheap very cheap . Hardest part cutting the steering column twice once to get the steering wheel end the other so that you can weld it back on .
