Does anyone have any experience of removing a wheel, specifically from a Nich35? I need to do this to fit an autopilot, the original Neco having finally gone to meet its maker.
The wheel is covered with a fused white plastic but appears to be made of aluminium or light alloy. The central spindle is steel and there is also a small square key which looks like brass.
Several hours of exerting huge force with a proper "puller" and hammering have resulted in moving the wheel by about 1mm and b*******g the central threaded hole in the spindle!
Is there something that I am missing or is it just a case of more brute force and ignorance to break down 30 years of corrosion?
Serious heating would probably not be feasible because of the plastic coating but I wondered whether alternate ice and boiling water might make a difference.
Any advice and suggestions gratefully received.
