My Colvic northener is fitted with a vetus helm pump.
Boat had been standing for 3 yrs and when recommissioned I filled the pump with hydraulic fluid.
It leaked out rapidly through the steering wheel shaft!
Took the pump off and had new seal fitted to casing.Bled system and seemed ok but have noticed very slight leak still around shaft.
If boat left unused for few days the steering only works if I spin the wheel from side to side several times.
I assume that it is losing pressure ?
Are there any other seals in the helm pump that need to be replaced ?
There does not seem to be any leaks in the ram at rudder end.

You will need to replace the seal again as it won't stop leaking by itself. While dismantled chech the steering shaft for wear in the form of a groove where the seal rubs. If found, fit the new seal slightly further in or out so that it runs on unworn shaft. The problem with the steering when left for a few days is air still in the system.
