Just had steering bushes and steering helmet bushes replaced (KAD 300s) after 250 hours use and a bit of play. The amount of play hasn't really changed after bushes were replaced /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif- how much play should there be?

my s24 n kad 32 has always had tons of flop in those bushes from new. it lives on the trailer so they are like new. i suspect that is why it will fly before it goes in a straight line under 8kts, without continual helm twitching.

good afternoon dkm. just noticed you are hamble based. am towing down to mercuery tonight for a couple of days afloat. please could you arange to have the sea ironed, if possible as far as weymouth? thanks in advance.

Interesting question as I've been wondering about my steering bushes too. The movement within my steering helmet bushes is small, but it translates to 1-2cm or so at the rear prop. Mercruisers drives seem to have no play at all. Maybe it's another Volvo feature /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Have replaced the bushes/seals a couple of times and bearing in mind that the actual aluminium shafts on my steering forks are well over 20 years old and therefore definately a bit worn, there is a not that much play between the shaft and plastic bushes.
A good grease up will damp down 99% of any movement and even though my fork seals are actually below the water(they should not be) line there is virtually no water ingress apart from a few drips after long journeys.

On a scale of 1 to 10 of worst ever jobs this is def a 11.
