All,

I'm having some issues getting the length correct for my steering cable on the 14ft Fletcher Arrowflight.
That cable that I bought it with was a rack and pinion, however it snapped at the end of the season.
I decided to replace it with a rotary system, and replace the helm also.

I always thought the original cable was too long and it snaked heavily down the side of the boat. Fig 1
The cable is marked with 4.25m, which when converted, is 14ft. So when I sent the detail to the marine shop, they sold me a 14ft cable rotary system.

I fitted this but was way too long, too long even to snake it up the side of the boat, there was 2 foot left by the time it got to the helm.
The cable the sold me is also about a foot longer than the original cable too, which I don't understand.

My questions are.
Are R&P cables measured differently to rotary?
The A, B , C measurements are A=40cm, B = 250cm, C=55cm a total of 11.3ft. I was told to round up to the next foot after this, do I get a 12ft cable?
Does anybody know what length is the right rotary length for this boat?

Thanks

Lay out cable and route it from helm then see how much shorter it needs to be at the outboard end ?
Maybe you've sorted it out now ?

AH, I got it sorted, I got the 14ft, too long, then a 13ft, too long, so I'm ona 12ft now!

On another note, are there any vids/tutorials here on putting a bottom in the boar with fibreglass and resin?
