Visited - by road - an MDL marina on the Hamble last week. Guess what? [ for anyone staying in an MDL marina on the Round the Island race weekend and - here's the best news - for those lucky few who will be staying with MDL during the Trafalgar day celebrations.

Isn't it great to be made to feel so welcome on these two significant Solent events?

Don't believe me? Go ahead and ask MDL...

Whoops, pressed the send key too early; this is what it should have read:

Visited - by road - an MDL marina on the Hamble last week. Guess what? Normal rates + 100% for anyone staying in an MDL marina on the Round the Island race weekend and - here's the best news - normal rates + 200% for those lucky few who will be staying with MDL during the Trafalgar day celebrations.

Isn't it great to be made to feel so welcome on these two significant Solent events?

Don't believe me? Go ahead and ask MDL...

thanks for warning-have often thought would be useful to have a forum on places/prices/facilities so we could share the good and bad before having to experience it (the bad) ourselves-like the pub and restaurant one but about visitor berthing etc,

if enough agree perhaps we could ask Kim if we could have a new forum?

He's saying that they are charging double rate for a berth during the RTI event and tripple during the Trafalgar event ...

This is purely a method of keeping numbers down and nothing at all to do with MDL making a huge fat profit for nothing extra...

Sailing's cheap - its mooring the boat that costs a bomb!

Put the reply in before his second post, now makes sense, although MDL are just doing the same as hotels during events, not defending them, but suspect very much a limited supply, but large demand, so charging what they can get away with.

Be interesting to know what the other marina's etc are charging in relation to their norm

The sad thing is that there will be plenty of people who will pay these prices, other marinas will follow suit and then these price hikes will extend to the summer seasons etc. It would be more acceptable if their baseline prices were reasonable to start with. For a 35 footer in an MDL marina for Trafalgar day celebs I'd be paying close on £100 per night!

It'd be nice to think that MDL could keep numbers down simply by not admitting boats when full rather than by tripling their prices; it is, of course, *everything* to do with MDL making a profit.
