We are about to purchase a steel JNF 42, but am not able to find any books on the internet dedicated to steel yachts. Neither tanya or i are in the UK at the moment (new york and nigeria respectively) but will be back for a day or two later this month. Can anyone recommend some tiltes dedicated to steel yachts that include everything from suitable paint, electrics, infact the full nine yards, and if possible, where to obtain them. I'm sure the titles are out there in cyberspace, but i'm buggered if i can find them.

thanks in advance.
Julian

Have you seen <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.bruceroberts.com/public/HTML/METALBOOK.htm>Complete Guide to Metal Boats</A>?

"Steel Away" by LeCain W. Smith and Sheila Moir ISBN 0-9615508-0-5 is an excellent book which I am sure covers just about everything you could want to know.... and then some!

I second the reccomendation for the Metal Boat Society website.... there is a great wealth of knowledge available there.

"Own a Steel Boat" by Mike Pratt, Hollis & Carter/Bodley Head, ISBN 0-370-30156 -0 (or 9 for paperback). Practical and down to earth.

Also "Building Steel Boats" a 2 volume set by Tom Colvin - better get it in the US, as it's a US book & has to be imported to the UK. This is a bit out of date now, as he BELIEVES in cold zinc spraying - something that requires belief, as facts suggest it's garbage.

Richard
