I'm just back from the boat where the insulation I spent yesterday sticking to the hull has fallen off. I used Bison contact adhesive. While it stuck to the painted steel ok it didn't seem to like the plastic film coated insulation.

Anybody recommend a glue that will stick to the plastic and the steel and can be applied in the cool 2deg? I need it to last about 30 years or so!

how about floor tile / carpet adhesive applied with a notched trowel

Bison is bog standard contact adhesive. I am using this heavy duty high temperature stuff at the moment in 2-3 degs, vinyl to fibreglass with no problems. Helps to warm the work area a bit though, I've got a fan heater on the go.

I used it last winter to stick 25mm closed cell foam to the inside of our fibreglass hull and it's all still there!

Yes I can read! He is using a **** contact adhesive, I suggested a good contact adhesive and offered the benefit of my experience, albeit with different materials.

What is the plastic film? If its a polyolefin its going to be difficult. No recommendation from the insulation supplier or manufacturer?

Insulation is closed cell foam and looks like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sonic-Gold-Laminate-Underlay-Wood/dp/B00452YY5G. Recommends double sided tape/ contact adhesive but it's not meant for boats. Not sure what the plastic is but it was strange the adhesive didn't stick as it is stuck properly to the metal/paint. I'll have to glue over that glue now as to peel it off proves too time consuming. Thanks for the pointers. Looking for an sa90 supplier in North Holland but in the meantime with try the tile adhesive.
