I was wondering if there was any interest in a steel boat forum, Power and Sail to discuss the peculiar charms of the genre? I am sure if there was enough interest our esteemed moderators could be persuaded to give it try.

Gets my vote, but how far do you go? Do you then have one just for GRP, Wood, Aluminium or even reed for those who wish to reconstruct Kon-Tiki? Only joking not taking the Pee.

Mal

Good point. But the mainstream forums cover 99% GRP, and the classic forum covers wood. Aluminium is even more niche than steel and the National Farmers Union site has a section on reed boats. 'Steel' yourself for the rush!

Also my vote

Do you know of the metal boat society, it used to be free but I think you now need to subscribe to get access here

Thanks for the heads up on that, have registered and it is an informative site, although seems to be somewhat 'staid' compared to this site !! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Just becos' you want everyone to know you sail a tin bathtub!...So do I! but it looks like GRP /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif and most of the comments on the main forums still apply..The ones that are worth reading! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ah if only that were true, I love to take Sultan out, but until I finish the rebuild I can only dream /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have also tried to get a finish like GRP.

I have put up pics of what we have done in the last 3 years

Its a bit like the boat, one of those things I keep trying to do, but am usually knackered when I get home. if you look at This web page you will see what I bought, what I have now is significantly less, but she is on the increase again.
Here are a few shots of work in progress sorry I don't any current ones though.

We do have a cover over most of the time, but that last gale blew it to pieces so need one at the moment, also we now have some decks back on. Slowly but surely.

Brilliant project Mal, Makes me shudder to remember when I was at that stage. 20 years on the work is all a distant memory but the boat is still good as new, so I must have done something right. Keep going and keep the pics coming!
