Steaming/deck light - recommendations?

I believe that spares are often rather long delivery, and nearly as expensive as a complete unit.

I had a feeling that my be the case

You might find it sensible to buy a new stern or masthead light and transfer the lens, which is the same moulding IIRC. The viewing angle is controlled by metal shields.

Might as well fit a complete new unit to the mast because it's off the boat just now.

Anyway - thanks for the advice

The series 41 has a small plastic fresnel lens for the decklight. The rim to this little perisher develops hairline cracks...then the lens falls out....the trick is to secure the lens with a bead of evostick round the edge and allowing it ito cure thoroughly before mounting.
Can you still change the bulb if the lense is glued on?

All this has made me change my mind so that I may as well stick with the basic type with the unshielded decklight, either the AquaSignal 25 or else buy an AAA cheapo from Marine Superstore.

By the way, does anyone know where I could buy a new lens for my existing AquaSignal 25? Preferably ex-stock?

If you reread my reply #18, you'll see. It's easier to put a new lens in the old fixture than it is trying to get the old housing off the mast and fitting a new one.

It's very hard to find just the lenses. But, I was very lucky to find JUST the lens for the stern light in a reduced price second hand bin. Just a lucky day.

The bow light was all new.

It's very easy to get the fitting off my mast. Just disconnect three wires, remove two self-tappers and off it comes.

I did say "the mast is off the boat just now". In fact, the fitting is sitting on the desk in front of me now.

And, although I hate to say so, it's in better condition than yours!

Whilst we are now on the subject of spares for AquaSignal lights...

I recently wanted spare bulbs for my Series 25 Combined steaming/deck light... The standard dimple end 12v/10w festoon bulb (AquaSignal part number 90200) is not sold in Chandleries.. they all seem to sell pre-packed similar bulbs at £3.85 a piece.

Wondering what the actual Aqua Signal bulbs were like in comparison with a pre-packed one I asked them to order one so I could see if it was made better. (Also - I seem to remember that the compliance sheet sold with the lights states that they comply with the relevant standards only when fitted with the manufacturer tested bulb).. but that's a diversion.

The chandlery told me to expect to pay four times the price for the AquaSignal bulb when it arrives.

A week later I got a call to say the aforementioned bulb was in .. and it would cost me

£2.90

A result!
