Steamer sinks off welsh coast

As an Irish man I am personally delighted that this Oliver Cromwell didn’t make it over here, the last one managed to butcher quite a few of my fellow countrymen!

Pete.

Indeed Mike, indeed. Good name for a boat, by the way ! Maybe they should have named her Serendipity instead, she might still be afloat.

Here is a video of the Oliver Cromwell and her sinking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHG9dPeZIUo&app=desktop

I would love to know the truth as to why she sank. Was there anyone aboard during the tow, did anyone check for damage below after striking the dock? Something very suspicious as to why she was 'allowed' to sink. Before she even hit the dock I was concerned about the speed of the tug as the Oliver Cromwell was sliding about all over the place on her flat bottom. Somebody has not been doing their job properly!!!! I am sure that the insurers will be asking the same questions after they see the video. My suspicions would be that the hull to deck seam split open and normally it would not be a problem on the canal and river, but at sea the waves would have eventually filled the bow 'til she sank, bow first.

Looked like the wind drove her into the dock, not the tow. However the tow looked a shambles. That rib should have been the brake to counter the wind.
