Steam Yacht \"Gondola\"

I wasn't just sure whether or not to post this here or Classic Yacht - but it has a motor, so its here /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I received a letter yesterday (snail mail) from an Aunt of mine with details of my cousin Valerie's appointment as skipper of the Consiton steam yacht "Gondola". She breaks a 150 year old out moded tradition of male skippers to become the first female skipper. One of the great things about this though is that she is a volunteer (as the crew all are) and as such this enables grand old vessels such as this to continue on, giving pleasure to thousands.

Lovely old boat. Rescued from under the lake IIRC. I used to take parties of students out on her as a "Jolly" in the 80's. A great day out.

I used to sail on Coniston and I can remember when Gondola was first restored and relaunched. She doesn't half come up quietly and quickly on you, especially if you're not paying as much attention as you should be!
