I am planning to go from Ips to London this week and wondered if anyone knows the status of the Gunfleet wind farm and any hazards to navigation in the area?

Assuming work has started, what is the best crossing point from the Wallet to East Swin?

I've not heard any talk of the work offshore having actually started but nor have I seen any suggesting that going across the Gunfleet Sands is do-able, other than at the Spitway. Wouldn't it be easier for you to go straight out to Wallet No2 at the top of the sands and then down through Barrow Deep?

Just a surmise.

Have a good trip - the Easterly wind is at least in the right direction for getting there.

I have crossed at the spitway before, but wondered if the works were causing a lot of traffic in the area - doesn't sound like it.

Yes I could take the outer route, with the stronger tides, it is probably as quick, if slightly longer.

Unusual for the winds not to be on the nose for my trips /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I went out to have a nose around a week last Monday. There were several vessels around the experimental mast, but on closer inspection these were mainly cocklers.
There is a large work cat based in Brightlingsea and they now have space on Wheelers scrap wharf so it does look like there is some activity going on though the boat stayed in Brighlingsea loading/unloading on that day.

It looks like the fisherman were getting very close inside any exclusion zone
