Static caravans at Bradwell

A planning application is to be made in December by the owners of the marina for 70 statics on the field between the road and the hard standing. This will more than double the population of Waterside in the summer and pose security issues at the marina as well as spoil the quiet ambience of the place.

IIRC the area lost one of its pubs... lack of trade probably helped... yet people object to bringing new life into the place...

Why not talk with the marina and try to get a more up market development that attracts a better calass of client who soend more and pose less of a social problem? Caravans look butt ugly anyway. A chalet development offering good quality accommodation would look better and help the marina keep operating.
 
Not so sure about the security bit. It seems to me that the undesirable element wouldn't want to own a static or rent one in Bradwell of all places. Clacton. Jaywick, Mersea etc maybe but not Bradwell. Agree about the number of people and maybe the Green Man will get more crowded (shame!) but static caravan does not actually equate to thieving riff-raff.

Bradwell is hardly the home of bright lights and fleshpots.

What do you mean "Clacton Jaywick Mersea"? We don't get undesirables in Mersea, and like Bradwell, Mersea is not "the home of bright lights and fleshpots"
 
Looking at the petition web site, it appears that 70 people have objected.

Out of the population of Bradwell that is only 17%... Yet of that 16 do not come from Bradwell and a 23 have remained anonymous so the number of Brqdwell residents who object is not that large.

How about instead of complaining, those who do not like the idea, simply club together and buy the land from the present owners... That way the objectors will guarantee to have things exactly as they want. And in tms of money, it will not be expensive compared to the cost of running a boat..
 
Ahem, am I alone in finding it ever so slightly ironic that we, who clutter up the once pristine and wild coast and rivets of the Dengie with white plastic yachts * for our leisure and pleasure should wish to object to others obtaining their leisure and pleasure by doing likewise with white metal caravans?

*OK so ours is painted blue but it was white originally!
 
It is the people who live there who are the complainants. As a berth-holder I do have concerns about security.

A few months ago I bought some fuel at the garage in Latchingdon. They checked my £20 note with a pen and I asked if they got many duds. "We do now the caravanners are back".

Tomahawk - why would he want to sell the land? He wants ongoing income. People move to the country for peace and quiet and I don't think it's unreasonable for them to try and maintain that. They already have to put up with sight of some greedy farmers wind turbines.

The shame of it all - being mistaken for a caravanner!

Mind you if he thought you had a boat he'd have flipped the till to get to the 'marine prices'....

I know it doesn't earn income...but it's a good spot for youngsters (?) to let off steam, to stretch their legs with a game of footy....rugger man meself...flying kites, or just haring around with dogs..

I am broadly in favour. Static caravans cost north of £30k, and are usually only allowed to get to 15 years of age before enforced replacement with a new one. The rents are at least as high as the marina fees, and the ground rules usually more stringent.
Only a few of those on a site that size would be for rent on a weekly basis.
We have a site down on Wallasea Island which is well run and beautifully kept. Even though I live only 2 miles from it, we take our family camping there occasionally.

When the Latchingdon cashier said caravanners, he may have meant those who tow their caravans around as cheap holidays, or maybe those who use them as a home. Different kettle of mullet altogether.
 
I've hired statics in order to go dinghy sailing and I've "towed a caravan in order to get a cheap holiday". Don't remember passing dud twenties though. You can get a good package abroad for the price of a static in the school holidays. They can be a bit jarring on the landscape though, and these would be, as seen from the marina. But then, if someone is not a sailor, maybe the marina will be a bit jarring from the statics!
