Any ideas what should be the minimum AH or perhaps CCA rating for a starter battery for a Volvo MD7a.

Currently I have a single bank of 220 AH for both starter and leisure purposes but am thinking of installing a separate starter battery.

The original battery in the MD7A engine manual was 65 Ah, no mention of CCA though.

I have an 85Ah start battery and 110Ah for domestic.

The Workshop manual merely says a maximum of 60Ah.

I do not know why a max figure is given but that is waht is given in all the VP manuals.

Therfore use a 60Ah battery engine start battery or your choice. Gel if you want to spend the money, bog standard flooded acid battery if you have a tight budget!

I've always assumed the max rating for the battery (also stated in the same manner for the MD1B) was to take into account the charging capabilities of supplied alternator (or in my case dynostart) but am open to opinion being changed - it was the only logical reason I could come up with why specify a maximum.

My md7a has a 110ah starter battery and a seperate 110ah battery for domestics this is how i purchased the boat and so far no problems
