Hi

I have been helping a friend who's engine wont start. There is good power at the connections to the starter motor but when the key is turned there seems to be nothing across the connections to the solenoid. I traced the wire back from the solenoid which goes to a relay on the side of the engine. This buzzes when we try and start the engine so swapped it over with the one off other engine and it still buzzes. Took the relay out and metered across the connections for the coil and that was a good 12.6 volts. I am suspecting the starter / starter solenoid bit I am curious as to why the relay would buzz?
Any help would be appreciated

Regards

Wayne

I had a similar problem, turned out that there was nothing wrong with the relay, but the starter switch itself was faulty, altho’ it apparently had 12v at the relay output, when it was under load it dropped dramatically and there was not enough juice to activate the relay so it just buzzed. Try bridging the starter switch to check this?

Thanks for the reply. I did check the key switches. I swapped them over by unplugging the harnesses and had the same problem. ??
