I have a 1989 Lister Petter Alpha LPWS2 engine and the starter motor has failed.

On the basis that anything with 'Marine' in front costs 3 times the price for an auto part, can anyone tell me the truck or car equivalent of the starter motor. I know the alternator is a standard Lucas part - so I'm hoping the starter motor may be as well.

The starter is a standard Lucas too I believe. At least that was the case for my 30 year old HR4W.

Best bet is to take the starter along to Lucas and get them to re-con/swap for a reconned replacemet.

Make sure they do a proper job. The first time I had mine done they didn't and it failed after about 5 starts.

Fortunately they have a 12 month warranty and I took it along to another branch who did a fantastic job.

Price will depend on the motor type.

Regards,

Nick
