Starter motor + isolation

Stripped, cleaned and re-built starter earlier, i cleaned the motor with WD40....now is this a fire hazard?
Also the engine isolation switch is in the engine room, would you move it to the steering position or keep it as close to the battery as poss as it is now?
 
stick it in the warm sun in a conservatory to evapourate the solvents... did a similar job on the morse control mechanism last year and boat smelled for weeks afterwards!
 
Clean the stater with white spirit (dry cleaning fluid) to get the oiliness and smell of the WD40 out of the stater.
The oiliness as a residue however may deter corrosion but will however collect dust. I think on balance I would leave it as is unless the smell is a bother.
The isolation switch should be in convenient place but not require extra wire cos of volt drop as already said. olewill
