I have twin cummins engines and seem to have a lazy starter motor, my problem is I cant get to the starter as its on the inaccessible side of the engine, if I get the local engineer to do the work will he be expected to get into the inaccessible starter motor

can anyone offer any advise please

Can you get to it from above by reaching down from above? It is a curse of boat designers that they don't always consider the possibility that something might break and require access.

Done many like that, getting em out is the easy bit. its getting them back that the hardest. lots of blue air, monkeys elbow. sockets, magnets (Cos something always drops) spider grabs, failing all that, its manifolds off and any bits in the way.
If you think boats are hard try a few cars to practice on.;):D:D

Always good to try the DIY route. I had similar problem and got an engineer to get it off at greast expense!! Went again and again but by this time I had learnt to do it myself and adapted some spanners etc which are now part of my tool kit. I am now confident that I can do it if it ever goes wrong again when I am far from help!!
