Hi
I have recently bought a starfisher 670 with a volvo penta tamd 22 105hp engine, most are advertised as having a cruising speed of 20knts and top out at 25 knts, mine is topping out at around 17knts on calm water , any advice please or do you think this is about right
Thanks
Mike

My thoughts are as follows.
Is the hull completely clean and the propellers barnacle free.
What is in the boat, as test figures are for an empty boat, no water in the tank, minimal fuel and no personal effects. This could easily add an extra ton in weight.
Is the correct pitch propeller fitted.
The engines may be quite worn and loosing compression, so do a compression test.
Are the engines running with new oil, fuel and air filters.
Are the engines reaching the correct maximum revs.
Do the injectors need servicing as this will affect performance.
Is there any crud or water in the fuel.
Weight distribution may affect performance, so check trim tabs and angle of an outdrive if fitted.

Hope this gives some pointers.

Thanks for your thoughts, took the boat out of the water today, looks like many layers of old antifouling on the Hull, I am having it removed and reapplied, yes I am carrying some fresh water that I won't use so I will empty it out. I am also checking the the trim tabs and will replace them if required. If this doesn't help I will look at engine performance. I can't find any official performance specs for this boat so maybe 20knts might be the limit, I was hoping that another owner might have the information before I start spending money that I don't need to

I have a Starfisher. 840, mine weighs 4.5 tonne and will top out at 24 knots. But then I have a 260hp engine. Your boat is more like 2.5 tonne in weight, which is roughly the same as a Merry fisher 805. These only reach around 22 knots with a 200hp engine. So with your 105hp I'd say the previous owner was spinning you a yarn. 14 knots I'd say is more realistic. There are some SF670's that have 160hp yanmar a fitted and can reach 20 knots.
If you ever want to trade up let me know!! ??

Thanks very much for your help, I had a feeling that the boat was running as it should be , GPS is showing 12 to 14 cruising and 17 to 18 top end, that tells me engine is good, thanks again
