Hi Folks,

I am thinking a bit a head here ,but considering replacing the standing rigging over the winter ready for 2014 season . We keep our boat at Felixstowe Ferry. Can anyone recommend a rigger/rigging company .

Is it better to drop the mast when the boat comes out the water and have the work done in the yard, or take the boat in the spring, to a yard with a rigging specialist and have the work done there.

I am fairly practical and have thought about taking off the present rigging, getting measurements, having the rigging fabricated and refitting myself as an option.

Any advise much appreciated

Many thanks

Rob

That's your cheapest option. Rig Magic at Levington are very good and very helpful. Don't bother measuring, just take the old rigging along and they'll match it. It's worth getting one of their guys along once it's all in place to tension it properly - most boatowners will never tension rigging sufficiently.

Boat out , mast down give these a call www.atlanticrigging.co.uk

I haven't used them personally but did ask for a quote and they were competitive with others , take or send yr old stuff and they will make new , I ended up using firm from Maldon as they came to yard and fitted forestay in furling gear on site which saved me the bother of doing it ...

+1 for Rig Magic. Once fitted Nigel got us to present the boat after a few weeks of sailing for checking/adjustment. Took it to Levington and all completed quickly, not cheapest but thorough. Very satisfied. No connection.

Fred Larkman did my rigging last year. Knows what he is doing, one of the few "old fashioned" yards, excellent value. They don't have the overheads some companies in expensive yards have. Very surprised that anyone would suggest Atlantic Rigging!!

Hi

I used a non marine supplier when I re rigged.
http://www.s3i.co.uk/
Their prices were about 20% less than to marine trade.

Talk to James Arrowsmith.
No Connection - just a happy customer.

I could not supply the old rigging as I had a new mast.
I had them swage fittings for the top of each shroud etc. and supply swageless fittings for the bottom that I fitted to the correct length with the mast supported by rope.

While you are changing the rigging it is worth checking that your mast has the correct set back to the design.
It can make a big difference to the weather helm of the boat if it is not correct.
Sirenia needed the mast head 10" aft of the goose-neck.
As long as I set the sails right she is pretty neutral on the helm.

I will happily recommend Atlantic Rigging, never managed to get Rig Magic to do anything in a timely manner.
