Standard Horizon wiring help required

HI,
Same story my end. Connected the common greens to the negative lead on the power cable and the lat and long appeared.
Regards,
Grant

Hi Thanks, Yes I've done that. It appears that there is a wiring fault somewhere in the loom. Connecting th common green to the negative results in a ling between the plotter and VHS.
I've managed to get a lat and long with this workround.
Thanks again
Grant
only.
What do you mean by 'the loom'? If you mean 3rd party wiring ie not directly connected to either device, I would try moving the plotter adjacent to the VHF and directly connecting the wires to see if it works. When I connected mine up last year, the wiring was fine but I had to try various Baud rate settings before it worked. These are settable in the plotter
I wouldn't leave it as a lash up but then, I'm a perfectionist. (Not) I'm just endlessly curious.

It's not a lash up, it's what is needed to get it working.

The other device is probably putting the NMEA output (the input to the radio) between one of the loom wires and battery negative, hence only one NMEA output wire. The radio provides the option of having a floating NMEA input, the NMEA +ve and -ve lines. Since the output from the plotter is +ve on a wire and -ve to battery negative the radio -ve input needs to be taken to battery -ve to complete the radio input circuit.

Baud rate setting is important but if it is working then it is set correctly.

Ostell, In my view, if it doesn't follow the manufacturer's recommended wiring diagram it's a lash up. Not being an electronics expert, I personally would stick to the preferred route.

If you go onto the Standard Horizon website and download the handbook for the CPF300i, which is the unit this entry is about, you will find, looking at the connection list on page 23 that the NMEA common connection is also black, Battery Negative.

Therefore for the radio to complete the circuit for NMEA the green wire needs to be taken to battery negative. Not a lash up, exactly what the manufacturer intended.

The wiring diagrams referenced earlier in this thread did NOT reflect the wiring of the CPF300i
