My GX3000 radio suddenly reverted to only picking up very close transmissions ie about a mile. Suspecting a faulty aerial I swapped over to a known good aerial - same problem

Any ideas what I should try next, and if it needs to go to be repaired what might the cost be and who to take it to?

I am based in Gosport

For your description, it could be anything on the receiver front end, even the failure of a 3SK88 or similar?

.

It doesn't have switchable senstitivity, does it? I remember one a few years ago (can't remember the manufacturer) that could be set to low sensitivity to reduce co-channel interference for applications such as boats that were used exclusively in harbours and were getting swamped by all the local transmitters.

Looks like it might be suffering a similar problem to some Icom radios where a batch of inferior components
has lead to a lack of receive sensitivity. Call the local distributors who have an excellent record for customer satisfaction.

You will probably have the job done FOC

Even if not free, then I think they had a standard charge. 25 quid to do all the ATIS and M1/M2 on my GX3000. Quick turnaround too.
