Standard Horizon plotter repair

I have a Standard Horizon cp180i. It’s about 12 years old and has developed a grey screen of death. No display though the screen does light up. Anyone got thoughts on repair? I can manage without it or I can replace it with a tablet but I’m quite fond of the little plotter....

They are very easy to take apart, I replaced the acrylic screen in mine last winter due to crazing. I would take it apart and check all the connections inside

I sent our 300i off toStandard Horizon when it developed problems. Unfortunately it required a new motherboard or some such and so was beyond economic repair. Sad, ‘cos I really liked it; simple to use, clear, took AIS, all I wanted really. And SH don't do plotters any longer.

As Champagne Murphy says really. They are very much end of life stuff unless it's a simple board or connection repair. Nice little plotters.

Maybe Navionics on a tablet?

I have a 180 with a faulty (intermittent) connection on the gps receiver connection (it went back to SH and they could not sort the issue). If you were happy to disassemble and swap screens you can have it for the price of postage.

That’s very kind. I’m not sure it is the actual screen, it could be something upstream of that but I will bear this in mind. Much appreciated.

Given the age of the unit, I'm not sure, but could it be the backup battery failed? I assume these units have one for memory retention, a CP180i is probably at least 10 years old so round about the lifetime of a battery back up?
Take it apart and have a look?
If you do take it apart, take some photos and post here, we may be able to see if anything on the PCB's look suspect. I've had a quick Google but cant find anything about battery replacement?

Edit: I see you've changed the link, a 1979 Bristol Targa wouldn't have been a great help.

An option is to buy a 2nd hand cp180i, I think there are a few on ebay.

How they dared charge so much for such a short term product escapes me. And as for the mounting thing - serious design failure.

Mine is a cp300, if you take the back off it’s all very simple, undo screws photo everything, release plugs, the tricky bit for me was removing the old screen, not part of the actual lcd display, cleaning up the sealant and bong in a new piece of acrylic without getting sealant everywhere.
