I have a SH GX2200E radio, new to me 3 years ago and I've just acquired a ( secondhand) RAM3 (CMP30) Remote Station Microphone for it . The problem is how do I connect the two?

The RAM connection on the rear of the radio is 8-pin, with one central pin, whereas the Mic has 10 female sockets! Looking at the SH site and at my radio on it, I see the picture of the Mic accessory is also for 10 pins. the same as the one I now have - :

I cannot find anything that says how, or what is needed, to connect the two.

Any help would be appreciated please. I can 'phone SH, but someone here must have fitted a mic to their similar radio.

Thanks

When new the mic is supplied with a long cable that connects the two. The cockpit end terminates in a socket that the mic plugs in to. Presumably that is still fitted to the previous owner's boat. The S/H part number is CT-100.

It's well worth sourcing a replacement. The mic/vhf combo performance far surpasses a conventional handheld set and the AIS/DSC functionality is very useful. I wouldn't be without mine.

There's a s/h one on eBay:

Mine is the same, am well impressed as well.

I’m sure mine has a different pins set on the back of the radio to the external socket. As said it came with the long lead with socket pre wired

+1 best set I’ve ever had the the ram mic audio so clear.

Hi Rob and Stu,

If either of you have the User Handbook, on page 14 the diagram shows a fixed (?) connector/bracket which connects the expension cable from the radio to an external speaker on one side, and the mic plugs into the other, outer side. It seems that I need this connecting piece for the different ends to connect to?

No hurry on replies to this, but as you said, Rob, the original owner must still have this bit on his boat. The 8-pins on the radio are right, as are the 10 female sockets on the mic, but they need some sort of 'adaptor' to connect up.

I think you will find the "routing cable" has an 8 pin connector for the VHF and 10 pin for the RAM. The cable linked to earlier is an extension cable, which has 8 pins at each end and is used to extend the "routing cable" from the VHF end. I believe the cable below is the one you need, but speak to John at JG Tech first.

Sorry, boat in Portugal with all on board. I bought the radio first then later bought the ram mike kit. It came with all the bits including an extension cable and a square doofer to fix to the steering pod. Iirc it was all in one piece, so I pulled the cable through, plugged it in to the back of the radio, fixed the square doofer which the threaded end of the cable had a nut to fix it, then the mike plugs in to that. So looks like you have been sold the mike but it needs the extension cable which probably has been left in the other boat?
