I want to read windspeed info from my ST60 multi on my CP300 plotter. The ST60 outputs NMEA sentence MWV for wind but the CP 300 manual only lists sentence VWR for wind. Does this mean it will not work.
How are you getting NMEA from the ST60? The ST60 only sits on a Seatalk bus so needs an interface box. It doesn't mention it specifically but I assume the ST60 does put all its data on the Seatalk bus.
So, if you hook up a Raymarine Seatalk -> NMEA interface box and get the NMEA from that, you should be OK. I just looked up the Raymarine seatalk -> NMEA interface & it lists amongst others, VWR for apparent angle & speed. VWR is the sentence for relative wind & doesn't contain true data. True wind direction & speed are contained in different sentences. Apparent should be OK.
The interface box should also output VWT for true wind. The CP300 manual says it accepts VWT so you should be OK for true as well.
As far as I found out from their web site, the Brookhouse box lists MWV & VWR for apparent only. However, MWV can contain true or apparent. Could be the Brookhouse box only uses it for apparent.
I have an ST60 multi display attached which has an NMEA output which is two wires seperate from the seatalk bus. There are limited outputs such as depth, boat speed and wind. There appears to be a mismatch between the NMEA wind sentence that the ST60 outputs and the wind sentence acceptable by the plotter.
