Hi all I have one of the above for some years now and now wish to use the anchor watch facility . How on earth is it set ? The menu just goes as far as turning the alarm on or off and or selecting alarm distance and the instruction book only give a brief statement "alerts when the ship moves off a selected location by a selected distance .The selected distance can be selected in the menu but not how to select the location . Or am I missing something ? Has anyone used the anchor watch facility On this model ?

cheers

Surely the location is automatically set when you turn it on? It's your current location, at anchor.

Absolutely but there doesn't seem to be any facility to "tell " the plotter that it's an anchoring position . Cant help thinking I'm missing something obvious here.

I think the plotter probably assumes that you'd only set the anchor watch alarm once you've anchored. The plotter knows where it is. So you don't need to tell the plotter anything.

I run a SH 300i through my SH AIS GX 2100E. I find most of the alarms on the otherwise excellant SH system will test the patience of the pope!

After I drop anchor I let the boat 'settle down' usually about 5 min, then I just hit the 'weigh point button' (which is a yellow cross) so the boat is automatically sitting right above the weigh point.
I then zoom into the screen and you can easily see if the boats starts drifting.

As we all normally anchor in somewhat calm conditions and I am well known to 'nod off' and also mainly sail single handed I just set my watch alarm for 30 min, if you drift ashore in 30 min in calm waters then you never set the anchor right in the first place !!

I take onboard all you say but I 'm more concern about overnight anchoring as recently ,and I don't wish to start another anchor thread but............ We drifted during the night having what I thought ,set my trusty Rocna ! Never had any trouble with drifting/dragging with it before . You just get complacent when you have a reliable anchor .
