I read in one of the mags that S/H are doing a free software update for their c/plotters. Since I have a CP180i that is couple of years old now I thought it worth checking out the website to see what the benefits are. Although I can find details of how to apply for the upgrade I can't seem to see what problems they are trying to fix. Can anyone enlighten me?

TIA.

Thanks for the HU over the update, although I couldn't find details of how to get it (got a link?).

I imagine that S/H would be the best people to answer this, so I've just asked them!

I downloaded the application form from the SH web site, filled it in and emailed it back to SH last Monday. Last wednesday the upgrade software arrived in the post so I loaded it straight away and sent the cartridge back to SH the same day. Full instructions are included. SH allow you 30 days to use the upgrade cartridge or they will charge you £75.

There are some nice new features that I think will be usefull although the dual chart feature wouldn't be great on a CP180, even on my CP300 might be too small, but its a good feature.

Any opinions on the CP300? Am considering buying one and would appreciate anyone's views!

Many thanks!

I certainly find it good, planning routes is easy , the display is clear, and of adequate size, (would that I could afford a bigger display) plenty of NMEA in and out which means you can connect to almost anything you might want to. Also if there is a good chart offer the prices can be really competitive.

The most obvious thing that will have changed in the upgrade is that they have added new graphics to the menu page, and the base map has been changed to look like google earth.

I had planned to buy a CP300 this winter, the split scale screen sounds just the job. I had better check that I can buy a new one with the upgrade in place...

SH Upgrade

I complained to SH a few months ago as the CMG and VMG on my CP500 were all over the place and obviously needed a longer sampling time. They advised that the software upgrade would rectify this problem. I haven't had a chance yet to try out the upgrade but that is one problem that hopefully has been rectified.

I I loaded it straight away

Please could you check the version number of the software.

I have the same issue as drawp.
SH sent me an upgrade a few months ago. It was V16.0.0

I still have the recorded track jumping all over the place with that upgrade.
On day on a trip from the Deben to the Orewell we went via the Bight of Africa according to the track.
We got there and back in less than 10 mins.:D

If the upgrade they are now offering is V16.0.0 I shan't bother.

I've had occasional trips to the Bay of Benin (O deg N 0 Deg W) though I was no closer to that position than the Cape Verde Islands. Interestingly it only happens on starboard tack when the aerial (mounted below deckhead) is at its lowest, so it probably isn't getting enough satellites for a brief period.

I had the same problem with wildly fluctuating speeds on my Garmin plotter after a software update! However, I don't know if its the same on the SH, but it is possible to manually set the sampling time on the Garmin and I find that 20 seconds works fine with nice steady readings.

S/H free software update for their c/plotters.

Did mine a few weeks back.
