stanchions sticking

How can one prevent stainless steel stanchion posts from "welding" themselves into alloy deck fittings, even just in the course of one season? Grease doesn't seem to prevent the problem, including molybdenum grease. Ideas welcome.

You need to electrically insulate them from the aluminium. If there's enough clearance in the holes, you could try a few turns of insulation tape round the bottom of each stanchion.

What about that wonderful Teflon tape?...doesn't need any clearance at all

No idea if it would work? would it be tough enough? It's great on most screw fittings

G'day AMacZ and welcome to the YBW forum.

You will need to sort this out or you will have no boat soon, This is Galvanic corrosion. and most metal other than alloy will cause the alloy to deterioate. You should check the whole boat out, a penny dropped in the bilge will eat a hole in the boat,

Most metals MUST be electrically insulated from the alloy, that includes the fixing screws, just insulating with a pad will be a waste of time and effort if the screws are not insulated as well.

Hope this helps.....
