Any comment on best practice installing those. Seal or not to seal with Silicone or other gue.
Did my lifelines. Inspected after 2 weeks and got surface corrosion on my 316 wires where the cone touches the wires :((
 
Did some of my rigging two years ago with Norseman terminals, sealed them
with silicon, had the mast down three months ago, while down undid and
checked a couple of them, no problems at all.

We replaced all our rigging 4 years ago with all the bottom connection via stalok. They are still in excellent condition having opened one to examine it.
I believe at the bottom end this is a much better and longer lasting than swaged fittings in which I have had probems of failure of the wire just inside the fitting. Swaged fittings does not seem to be sealable.
Make sure you use a non corrosive sealant. I believe not all silicon sealant meet that criteria
 
difficult area. stainless steel requires oxygen to replace the protective oxide coat that makes it stainless. if you put it in an environment which is oxygen deficient, it can corrode just as fast as mild steel. problem with sealants is whether you can be sure to completely seal the joint up. if you dont, then you could create a problem. certainly, sealing them up and then opening the joint without subsequently re-sealing seems very dodgy to me.

mind you, if you dont seal at all, and the fitting fills with stagnant sea water, that also is dodgy.

on balance, i took the latter course. like you i have some surface rust, but i can at least open up the joint and inspect it.
 
Manufactures reccemend sealing.
presumed anyone reading this would credit me with the sense to reseal
after inspection!

silicone danger

silicone sealant (not grease) contains acetic acid, not a thing to leave trapped in contact with metal for a long time. stainless can corrode as quickly as mild steel if air is excluded.

You're quite right, as it cures, it gives off acetic acid. I used the grease. One thing to remember, if you open a stalock terminal, for inspection, you're meant to replace the cone, they are a one time use thing. I remember that from the instructions when assembling mine, I don't know if it's still true, but it certainly was when I did my rigging seven years ago.

Agree with you about not reusing the cones, but you can undo the
fitting to check that the wire has formed itself correctly around the
cone, I would suggest that it is a good idea as sometimes a strand of
wire can get trapped in the cone stopping it from closing up tight on
the centre core, relying only on the outer wire to hold!
Was my understanding the cone was replaced on new wire because it had
closed shut from previous use, and then not being able to pass the core
of the new wite through it,
What I also did was to wrap some insulating tape around the wire tight
to the connector to check if any slippage occured when retightening the
stay, I still keep it on, as it easy to keep a eye on them!

I did the same mike and it did catch one wire, so I repositioned it and tightened again, but I thought I was being a bit naughty! But could see no reason not to do it and well....you know! Merry christmas and a happy new year to you to mate av' a goodun!
