Suggestions please for a mail order supplier of stainless steel tube 3/4" O.D. length 1 metre? Ideally grade 316 but I would accept 304 if absolutely necessary. Wall thickness unimportant. I have found one source but they won't supply just 1m. Most suppliers only stock metric sizes. It's needed to make a longer pole for an all-round light on our tender. Thanks.

used them lots and highly recommended.

I bought stainless tube from 'Metals4u'.
The first length was the wrong OD.
The second length was the wrong wall thickness.
The third length had saw cuts in at mid length.
The fourth length was correct.
They didn't make much profit from that sale, and I now have three lengths of stainless tube looking for a job. (And an outboard davit).

Whoever you choose check with them that it’s actually the correct imperial size that they’re supplying and not the close 19mm equivalent if having 3/4” is critical.

I use Spectrum Alloys in Stoke, they often have off cuts available, give them a call and I you buy it over the phone I'll pick it up and post it to you if you refund me the postage.

Thanks all. Please forgive me if I don't say thanks individually.

I thought I had already responded but seemingly not. Been tied up today - last night I discovered the boat had sprung a leak. Now, which takes top priority, sourcing a longer pole for the tender's all-round light or stopping the leak? I chose the leak. Now stopped.

I will start with Spectrum in the morning. Actually 19mm might do, I'll re-measure first thing. It's definitely 0.75" on the vernier caliper but it's possible 19mm might fit.

I don't think it is a great idea to phone them as they might be a bit wary thinking you are from the Taxation Dept.

I've found it better to wander in to their jobbing shop with some cold hard currency sticking out of your hand. They'd be delighted to get some money for a 1m off-cut, do a bit of welding or some bending etc.

I looked closely at their huge selection and I think I did buy a thick short section of 316 piping when I needed it in a hurry, but their prices are a shocking deterrent most of the time. Most of the metal I order for projects comes from Ebay, where various small operators advertise reasonably priced offcuts.
