Anybody bought one?

My genuine Yanmar elbow has perforated through after just 5 years and replacements cost an arm and a leg. I've found two companies selling aftermarket stainless steel ones - one in the US imaginatively called exhaust elbow which has been mentioned in PBO, and a UK based one called MSK.

Both are way cheaper than Yanmar OE ones so either seems like a no-brainer.

Thoughts or experiences?

I got one form the US for my 2GM20 in a previous boat. Easy to fit and worked well but sold the boat after a couple of year so no real idea bout long term use.

I bought an after-market mild steel version on eBay for my Penta D2 55. About half price compared to new. 2 years on and it's doing fine (but haven't checked internally).

I was put off the stainless alternatives by talk of low tolerance for temperature variations. risk of Temperature induced stress-cracking. Although the stainless bit makes sense. I dunno.

About 4 years ago I got one from the US supplier for my 2GM20, I took it off for the first time at the end of last summer when I was laying the boat up. It was in good condition and free from any significant carbon build-up, just blackened. I put it straight back on with a new gasket. Apparently the smooth inside of the welded version is less prone to attracting carbon build-up than the rougher surface of the original cast version.

I do a fair amount of motoring - I'm on the Irish Sea.

I bought a stainless steel one from the USA for my Volvo 2001. It came from the middle of nowhere in north west USA. The seller was hdimarine on eBay. It fitted perfectly and the quality was excellent. Of course taxes had to be paid but it was still good value.

Mine was stainless steel too and very nicely made and finished. It was probably the same supplier as Dipper's but I haven't kept a record, I know it was via ebay.
