Anybody got any good advise on how best to remove screws that hold portlights in? The s/s slot head machine screws are seized on the cast aluminium portlight frames. Can't easily get heat on them do to wooden trim.
I recall in one of the self steering book the author reminiscing about removing aluminium corrosion products. He tried one batch in a bath of WD40 and the other in fresh water. The water worked better! Be very careful to use the best fitting screwdriver you can and work the screw both ways, this can at least break the deposits down to dust and once a gap is opened you may be able to get some water in to help.
The problem with them being portlights is that you cannot drip plusgas or anything similar into the threads. There is also a backing frame between the screw heads and the portlight frame that makes it difficult to apply heat.
