I have an aftercooler problem on my TAMD41B. I have seen the stainless steel aftercooler advertised at £995.
It looks crude in comparison with the VP part which is copper and brass and finely made but if it does not leak it will be a major step forwards!
Does anyone have any experience of this part, does it do the job well or is there black smoke because the air is not sufficiently cooled?

Thanks but neither of these.
Black smoke is generally a lack of air typically from a poor turbo ( mine are reconditioned ).
The aftercooler is leaking so water clogging the fins and collecting in the casing, Once I have sorted this I will hopefully have cured the problem.

I don’t think water will block the fins given the amount of air being pulled through (still needs sorting of course)

Recon turbo…..was the exhaust housing replaced? Waste of time otherwise.

You can get the boost pressure with a simple gauge going into a blanking nut on the intake manifold. That’ll tell you all you need to know ?

Thankyou.
I have repaired the aftercooler and black smoke is much reduced but not completely eliminated.
I had reconditioned turbos at the end of 2019. Injectors removed and recailibrated around 2017.
I suspect there has always been a slight problem but cannot think why. The port engine works perfectly!

I’d measure the boost to see if it’s an air issue. Be good to compare with the other engine.

after that…water damage? Injector now hosing?

Valve clearances been done? Etc…
