Looking for a company for polished stainless steel work (bow protector) on south coast of Portugal, would prefer to deal with a company that manufactures rather than go through third party yacht services company.

Any recommendations?

Difficult sourcing manufacturers on this coast.

If you are in Lagos you could pop into Sopromar and ask to speak to Hugo.

Sopromar are not cheap but, IME, do everything they are asked.

Others may disagree but most grumbles I have heard are about price - not quality.

There are a couple of firms on the industrial estate in Olhão. I had a couple of stainless fuel tanks and a bow roller made a few years ago and am still pleased with them.

The best on the Algarve is Antonio Baiao at Olhao. Workshop is on the industrial estate at the end of the commercial dock, on a corner, near the petrol station and Aldi*. Lote 119/121. Tel before going, he's usually there in the afternoons - mobile 966026525.
Made us a new pulpit last winter, expensive but good.

* Correction, SWMBO says it's a Mini Preco, not Aldi.

An alternative for stainless supplies only is MLG Inox at Conceicao, about 8 miles out of Faro. They are due to move premises to Patacao so phone to check where they now are - Tel. 289 832 832.

Second MLG, I used to buy a lot of stuff there, and, he has a hydraulic swaging kit for rigging cables. (talurit style, not roll, but that might have changed)
He needs to move, not the easiest place to find!

Thanks all for the advice.

Have not used Sopromar but asked for an opinion and some advice and the guy came to the boat took a look at a potential problem and reassured me that remedial work was not required, very impressed with the honesty so would not hesitate to use them in future.

Just to update I took the damaged bow protector to Antonio to get a new one fabricated.

Rather than make a new one he said he could straighten and remove the deep gouges and then repolish, I was rather sceptical but he said if we were not happy with the finish then no charge.

True to his word, I defy anyone to tell me it has been repaired, the finish is amazing, the guy is a true tradesman.

Highly recommended and a fraction of the cost of a new one.

Glad you're happy, his work is quite amazing. Our pulpit mounts into 4 stancheon bases and he made the new one from my drawing, as the design was different to the old damaged one. When I brought it to the boat, it just dropped into all 4 mounts with no adjustment necessary. Interesting that he stick welds rather than tigging
