Richardson's scrap merchants, New England Street,
or more likely there yard at Goddards Green.

I've found a whole load of unlikely and expensive looking stuff there in the past.

Might be of use if you're desperate

I'm looking for a slab of 316 or 304 6 to 8mm thick and about 250mm wide and 520mm long.

Anyone got any ideas where I can source this within the Brighton / Worthing Sussex area?

Local yellow pages - look for a stainless steel stockholder. Its an established branch of steel stockholding so there should be one somewhere near you.

They will ask you what spec you want and what condition you want

There are quite a few metal suppliers on ebay and I have managed to get all my requirements that way with no problems, all provided good service.

Metal suppliers

I buy Aluminium from Aalco Ltd at Southampton. Despite their name they also hold stocks of stainless steel and even copper if you should need some. Aalco have branches across the country and a website listing materials, specs and stock sizes. You could call them to get availability and prices. They will cut to size normally but you might have to pay for a complete piece. They are a major supplier to the marine industry but are happy to sell small quantities to individuals.
