my rival 34 has an inaccessible stainless fuel tank.taking it out to clean is not an option, what advice could you offer, toclean the innards, what is best for the cleaning process?will soap and water suffice.will it soften or dislodge any sludge?your help appreciated.

thanks for those.i will enquire re the chemical process, steam cleaning cannot be done,no access for such.unless you have a cunning plan.

If you use a Biocide at 1 fill and a Water dissolving solution at the next you should have very little to clean in the first place.
Check that your fuel provider has clean fuel and your cleaning problems should be reduced signifigantly.
If your fuel provider gets the ick about being questioned tell everyone you know and go else where.

Steam cleaning is the easiest and best option. The other idea you could consider is deagreaser or strong detergent with hot water. One of the alcohols will clean most gunge off.

If you can see the top of the tank, cut a hole to give you access and then have it steam cleaned properly. Fit a plate to make it fuel tight afterwards. All fuel tanks should have an inspection plate and very few actually do have them.

I had a similar situation a couple of years ago and cut a hatch in the tank. It was shocking the amount of sludge that had accumulated over 25 years! I also discovered a central baffle, so I had to cut a second hatch. Cleaning was done by hand and was very messy /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well worth creating some tank access IMO, if only for peace of mind in the future.
