I took two bolts out of the thermostat cover off my honda. one sheared, the other i got out ok. when i replace the bolts, to help prevent corrosion would you use duralac, some lock tite product or copper grease. The bolt is not under a great load ,i.e. a thermostat cover and will only be pinched up . but some day in the future I can see me having to remove these bolts again to inspect the thermostat. Regards Nic

A tube of Duralac is a tenner on eBay. It will last you the lifetime of the boat probably. It is specifically designed to do the job. I just dismantled my 19 year old jib furler that had s/s screws in ally, where they had used Duralac at the point of assembly and they all came out without any trouble. ON the masthead and spreaders where s/s screws had been used without anything (discernible) I had a devil's own job

But if you are desperate to save a fiver, grease or Vaseline is probably about half the cost of Duralac....

Tef- gel might be a good choice on something close fitting, rather than Duralac

Otherwise as William suggests, grease and occasionally undo, regrease and refit.

Do the same for all the bolts that have to be undone to access the water pump impeller.
