Stack Pack/ Lazy Jack system

I paid Parker & Kaye £348 + VAT for a Fast Pack Mainsail cover for a Sadler 29 in Winter 2003/04. The cost-conscious may say that that was expensive but it's been completely trouble free, hasn't faded at all and so matches the new sprayhood that they made for me in Winter 2010/12.

Just had one made by Ocean Canvas in Plymouth, just along the road from Mayflower Marina where the boat is. So they could measure etc etc. Cost £550 inc VAT-after some negotiation! This is for a Sigma 362, so boom longer then the OP's I think. They do charge by length of boom. This included the lazy jacks, but I fitted it all myself. Only sailed with it once so far, but delighted. It has some nice design details, compared with a competitors I also considered.

No connection etc.

I paid just over £300 for a new stackpack from Crusader last year (with boat show discount) - big enough to take a fully battened main. Very nice it is too. I already had lazyjacks but all you need is a couple of blocks on the mast and some string a few stainless steel rings. Little blocks on the strings are not essential.

Allow £400 -£450 in all with no discounts.

We installed lazyjacks for our fully battened main last year. Cost was about £40 for some cordage and fittings. The lazyjacks are only rigged to drop the sail, and taken forward once the main is down and a few sail ties secured, then the conventional sail cover can go on. None of that faffing around with battens catching the lazyjacks as it goes up. Part of the thinking was that a stackpack would compromise the simplicity of the set up and, particularly, would make setting up the trysail much more complicated.

Hi, I have just fitted a new stackpack, made to measure for £350 by a local chap. PM me for his details if you are near Tollesbury.

I rigged the lazy jacks as shown here.

They work perfectly. Release the uphaul and pull in the downhaul to hoist and sail. Release the downhaul and pull in the uphaul to lower the sail. Brilliant.

paid £460 from Dolphin sails last year, for a 35' boat / also 13' boom. I went for a single piece system - basically, instead of the "boot" that unclips from the fwd' end of the boom, it is designed to tuck out of the way. it also fits very well as i have a fully battened main. my previous boat had the more usual two piece system and i found it a nuisance to avoid losing it over the side and having to readjust it regularly. i also went for mesh drains in the bottom of the stackpack. these allow any moisture to drain out and keep it well ventilated / avoid mildew build up on the sail.

I put one on my Westerly Storm 2 years ago, it was about £400.
If your main sail is not loose footed, you will need to allow extra for a modification.

Quoted £35 / foot of boom length for stack pack earlier today. Looking forward to delivery! Lazy jacks, if I needed them, about £130. VAT included.

£525 for HR34 from Parker & Kay in Oct 2009, very good quality, still looks new after 3winters.

Ours is also from Ocean Canvas and we too like some of the design details. We don't usually bother to touch the lazy jacks when hoisting sailing or lowering and don't suffer too badly with battens catching. Fully battened main on a 39 footer. We've had it for a few years so the £400 or so we paid is out if date, but I would commend Sarah at Ocean for her work and pricing.
