Stabilised binoculars

Have you got it onboard, M?
I might bring my Fuji when we'll catch up, to check them side by side.

I went to the same stand at the boat show but the bloke didn't even mention them in the 10 or 15 minutes I was there trying out various pairs. I guess he saw you and thought this is man I can sell a £1000 pair of bins to but when he saw me thought "tyre kicker" :)

I specifically asked to see them. If I was manning the stand I would have sold a lot of 10x30 Canon binoculars :)

12 x 36 have better magnification but renown for IS artifacts and some close field blurring, these effects will bother twitchers and cosmosolgists but fine for a mariner...I tried both and the extra magnification was noticeable. Nice and compact, battery has lasted all season and we now need a second pair at the helm as Ann will not let me near 'her' set. Second favourite gadget on board after the Nespresso machine :)

For the records, I always thought that also with the Fuji the (4xAA) batteries are impressively long lasting, but I must admit that not as long as a whole season.
A couple of batteries sets/season is more like it, though it obviously depends on how frequently and for how long the thing is turned on.
Otoh, at 14x, the unit is practically useless onboard, unless the stabilization is turned on...

Btw, also on my boat the Nespresso is higher in the gadgets ranking than the bino. :D
Though neither are as high as the corkscrew! :cool:

Not much Totty in Brittany this season so bins were only used for their intended purpose, thus the extended battery life...we have just moved into an apartment in Truro overlooking the student nurse digs so I have stocked up with 20 high energy AA's :)

Re corks...we just nudge with a thumb and the champagne does all the hard work....am I missing something?

LOL, good point, though I'd suggest to NEVER open a decent bubbles bottle just with the thumb, letting the cork bang out.
Keeping it with the whole hand, and gently releasing the pressure with the bottle at 45 degrees, is the proper way to handle that.
Easier with the first bottle than after 2 or 3, of course! :D

Oh, and I still appreciate red enough to keep a good corkscrew always handy anyhow, just in case...! :)
 
Do you mean the coffee machine or the stabilized bino?
The first is to make coffee and eventually drink it, which is an essential part of boating life.
The latter is just a nice to have toy.

I think swmbo nespresso costs are slightly higher than the fuel bills..no the binos...ah as a toy,right...all .taking sense then
